Why Removing Concrete Is Not As Easy As You May Think

Posted on: 8 April 2021

Concrete is a very durable material that is present in most buildings, both on the outside (in the form of driveways) and inside (either as flooring or as part of the foundation). Occasionally people will change their minds about the look of concrete or simply want to try something different. While that is perfectly normal, it also often comes with the assumption that getting rid of concrete is easy. If you want another type of flooring that requires the area to be clear, then the best way to get rid of concrete is through a process known as concrete cutting.

Is There No Way To Quickly Remove Concrete?

Unlike other materials that can be ripped out with skid-steers or bulldozers, concrete is not that easy. Once it has cured, concrete is virtually impossible to get out quickly, although techniques in concrete cutting have been getting better and better. Trying to remove concrete on your own with a jackhammer or a sledgehammer will take months, and likely result in quite severe back pain and injuries to all involved. Concrete cutting is a very precise method of removal that will not damage other areas of your property and moves relatively quickly when you compare it to other, less advanced methods.

How Does Concrete Cutting Work?

There are a few different tools used by concrete cutters, but most involve a drill bit or a saw that is tipped with diamond. That's right, often the only way to remove concrete is by using the hardest material known to form naturally: diamonds. These diamond blades can crack concrete and remove it in little chunks, or when it is needed for a big project, it can take out large portions of driveway or flooring with larger, driver-operated machines.

What Do I Do With The Remaining Concrete Debris?

One of the many perks of using a concrete cutting service is that they take care of all the rubbish and leftover stuff for you. If you tried to remove the concrete on your own, then not only would it take forever but you would end up with several tonnes of rubble that would be very hard to hide anywhere. This rubble cannot easily be disposed of through traditional means, and most concrete cutting companies have special business relationships with landfill sites that allow them to get rid of it. Truly the only way to have a hassle-free removal of your concrete is through concrete cutting.
